Character Studies.

Portraits Too Can Turn Into Works Of Art: Pure Political Art And Icons. It Was Andy Warhol Who Took Black-And-White Pictures Of Marlyn Monroe And Elizabeth Taylor, Mao And Beuys And Turned Them Into Icons. The Character Studies Of Jónatan Grétarsson Are Full Of Nostalgia And Of References To The History Of Photography In The Twentieth Century. They Are Not Unlike The Material That Andy Used. Jónatan Documents Icelandic Artists Some Of Whom Are Familiar, In Color , From The World Of Icelandic Glamor Magazines. Color Photography Is Great For Glamor Magazines. But A Black-And-White Photograph Can Turn Into An Enduring Icon. Jónatan´S Hard, Direct Light Marks Out His Subjects And Pulls On Them So That They Seem To Be Coming Out To Meet The Viewer. The View Of Them Is Forbidding - No Smile, Faded Color, Regret And Nostalgia. “Where Did The Days Of Your Life Lose Their Color, And The Poems That Rushed From Dream To Through Your Blood.” As The Poet Johann Jónsson Wrote. Jónatan Has Developed His Documentary Method Into A High Art. His Photographs Presence Is Such That The Viewer Is Brought Into The Journey And Tempted To Go Through The Mirror Into That Other Reality Which Is Full Of Mirror Into That Other Reality Which Is Full Of Symbols, Icons Which Have Gotten Stuck In The Upside-Down Inner World. IT Is No Easy Task To Come Back, So Powerful Is The Experience. We Really Do See With Our Minds.

Formlag / Shape

Art History Revolves Around Proportions. On One Hand; The Proportions Of Humans And Nature. On The Other Hand; Basic Geometric Forms Such As Squares, Triangles And Circles Or Cubes, Pyramids And Spheres. Firstly Natural Forms, Secondly Subjective Analyses Of Everything We Observe, - The Geometry Of Basic Forms. Both Types Of Forms Create A Hidden Structure For Composition. The Human Body, Placed In Geometric Forms Emulating Nature, A Sort Of Columnar Basalt.

Dark Dimonds

A flood of gray tones plays beneath the dark diamonds of the nebula. How are dreams made? that are produced in our life pictures? Which plot begins with this opening? The shapes give birth to form. Some of them originate from the flat discs of a pressure jug, stenciled on the surface or sacred proportion - the metatron form - which is said to includes all detectable forms in the cosmic dimensions of the universe. That, the pressure, noticeable as a big bang or just the pressure of exploration. It is played in black and white flat, multi-layered. The pupil works like a stargazer. Expands and contracts depending on the lighting conditions. The infinite darkness expands the senses. The aperture in the eye, it is always important to except what is obvious. Eyes moving, searching and studying. Radiation shows itself in the moment when the eyes meet and only the place and aperture of the soul opens up. One moment at a time, an eternal image produced. As the world expands, is a progression as the chess begins, layered stroke over stroke. It is like a flood over the face of the soul, reflects the experience of the accompanist who in his humility looks and has reached his We learn the gray tones of the shadows by the interplay of flash and light, the playfulness moves to the surface. We perceive, expand and contract, travel into sparkling at home without remembering the dream itself. After consideration and consideration, we learn deeper perception, but not all the apparitions, there were interludes in the dream. All of a sudden blind spots appear that we have seen in the very dream that was previously hidden. Sons which appear and disappear again as fast as the light arc for the image itself moves. We stop and study the symbols, some colorful. We only see them now and then. Yes, we do let's float together into a dreamland of the same day and night, how much together, how close together. There are undertones, playful interplay without the oppressive pressure of potential the result of the interaction between two artists. which meet halfway in interaction and induction the shades with blind-spots - the dark diamonds of the board. We study there - that there are countless games in the situation.

Portraits with out a face

Once I heard a person of wisdom say that the history of ideas is not at all linear - where something better develops from previously- existing ideas. Rather it is a history of repetitions or cycles in which some take longer to return to us than others. On cycle of that kind is when people are more interested in the world behind their eyes than the one before. Prior to the renaissance of the fifteenth-century, litreature and the visual arts were full of symbols and coded signs. The Renaissance brought us self-expression and, in time, led us to believe in so-called reality - the earthly world as we experience it in front of our eyes. The world advances. And ideas that once were teeming with life and spirit are not always so.

Silhouette

“When shooting people, one of the most essential aspects is the silhouette of your subject-for a moment , forget about expressiojns, lighting, and concept, and let your eyes outline the body of your subject. Notice the way it guides you through the frame, drawing you in and conveying emotion without the need for detail or technicality.”
